Coach Rick Buckner retires from National Basketball League Coaching after 30 years

Brent Bulls Women Head Coach Rick Buckner will be retiring from basketball coaching.

After spending over 30 years coaching basketball, Coach Rick decided it was time to retire.

Starting his coaching career at Harrow School in his early 20s, the journey went full circle as he found himself coaching in the North-West area for Brent Bulls Ladies and the University of Westminster Women’s in his final year.

His most notable role has been as a coach at Reading Rockets U-18 Girls and Women’s. Prior to joining the Bulls, he coached at London Westside, London School of Economics Basketball, and London Hyenas, a Women’s London Local League club. In 2014, he served as the Head Coach for the London Basketball South Region for Basketball England.

” We are very thankful for Coach Rick’s efforts with the Bulls. Rick has left his legacy with Brent, pushing the ladies to win the league, promotion and strong playoff run in his and the clubs first season competing in the Women’s National League.

Rick always went above and beyond for the team, and I wish him all the best. He’s dedicated so much time to the game and the community; I’m so happy for him.”

– Clive Castillo, Brent Bulls Director

In his final year Coach Rick led the University of Westminster Women’s Basketball programme as part of the partnership with Brent Bulls Women’s. Including gaining promotion with an impressive 13-1 record and reaching the WNBL D2 Semi-Final playoffs as Brent Bulls Head Coach, he earned the WNBL D2 Coach of the Year Award.

The club will now be appointing a new Women’s Head Coach to lead Brent Bulls Ladies in their first season in Women’s National League Basketball Division 1 2022-23.

Thank you for the memories Coach.
We wish you the best in your retirement.
